The course was ice-covered, the air was ice-cold. Bieles, a small industrial town in Luxembourg, was hosting the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in some of the worst conditions racers had seen all year. And American Ellen Noble was on her way to doing what only a handful of Americans had done before: She was on her way to winning a silver medal in the Under-23 race. 

In 2018, Aspire Racing emerged as a powerhouse team in U.S. cross. The team was created by four-time national champion Jeremy Powers and bolstered by young American stars Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov.

Riders will wage battle on the slopes of the infamous Cauberg in the town of Valkenburg in the Netherlands. Perhaps best known as the finishing climb of the road racing classic, Amstel Gold, the Dutch hill has also been featured in multiple UCI Road World Championships as well as stages of the Tour de France.

You can’t see them, but you can hear them hollering in the woods.

Let’s catch our collective breaths, because we cheered loud and hustled hard at the 2018 Cyclocross National Championships in Reno, Nevada.

Ellen Noble is having one of the best seasons of her young cyclocross career. 

Sanne Cant took her fourth consecutive victory in Essen on Saturday, displaying not only her power, but her ability to make the right tactical decisions under pressure. The decisive moment in the women’s race came when Cant dismounted and ran through a deep mud section which Nikki Brammeier rode. 

The sun shined bright over northern Germany as riders lined up for the fifth round of the UCI World Cup. Yet the course remained saturated from a week of rain leading into the race.

The 2017 U.S. Cup-CX is officially over, and if fans and riders have their way the series will return next year. The uniting of seven race days under one umbrella with one massive payout drew top-tier talent to KMC Cross Fest, Charm City Cyclocross, the Cincy CX Fest, and the Derby City Cup. American fans saw what high-level racing looks like when $10,000 payouts were on the line for the male and female winners.

As racers head to Louisville, Kentucky — site of 2013 Cyclocross World Championships — there’s a chill in the air. Fall has reared its sometimes-ugly head. Mud and muck abound.

At Charm City Cross, the top U.S. riders duked it out on a course that national champion Stephen Hyde called “super Euro.” 

The racers collapsed and stared blankly after they crossed the finish line — dozens of them, with ice-cold towels draped over their heads and team managers spraying water into their faces.

On Wednesday night, as the lights began to dim on CrossVegas’ final show in Sin City, a huddle of men — one wearing Mardi Gras beads, another shirtless — shouted, “SWEECK, SWEECK, SWEECK,” from the base of the finish line stage, upon which the podium sat.
