The action resumed at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal on Thursday, with the Women U23 Road Race kicking off the second half of the eight-day event.
Through Sept. 27, athletes from 100 nations will hit the Canadian streets for gender-based road races in three divisions, and Slovakia's Viktória Chladoňová became the first to pull on the coveted rainbow jersey.

The 19-year-old Chladoňová became the first repeat medalist in the short history of the women's U23 road race, which was held for the first time in 2022.
Chladoňová upgraded from silver last year in Kigali, Rwanda, to a shiny gold medal this year in Montreal by outsprinting Canadian star and multi-time mountain bike world champion Isabella Holmgren in the final meters.
The two were part of a three-rider breakaway with Belgium's Fleur Moors, but they were able to pull away and create a gap of 35 seconds between themselves and the chasing group.
Holmgren, 21, attacked multiple times in the last 4 kilometers, but Chladoňová had an answer every time.
The Canadian also launched first on the homestretch, only to be caught and overpowered by Chladoňová at the finish line. Moors was able to finish at the front of the chasing group to secure the bronze medal, 33 seconds behind the leaders.
In five years of U23 road races at the UCI Road Worlds, the women's winners have come from New Zealand, Hungary, the Netherlands, France and Slovakia, respectively.
