Steve Rogers. Chris Evans. Sam Wilson. Anthony Mackie. Quinn Simmons.
What do all of these men have in common?
Depending on the depth of your Google search, you’ll eventually find that they all share the same alias – Captain America – and one of them is preparing to cross the border into Canada to represent the United States in battle.
Though he won’t be facing criminal masterminds, war criminals or costumed villains, Simmons will don the iconic stars and stripes jersey when he lines up against cycling rivals from more than 75 countries at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships.
The event will be held in Montreal from Sept. 20-27, and all of the action will be broadcast live on FloBikes and the FloSports app.

It still has not been determined if Simmons has actual super powers, but he’ll definitely need every bit of strength and strategy he can muster if he’s going to bring home the first road race world championship for the United States since Lance Armstrong in 1993.
Armstrong’s victory was the third in history for the United States, and he joined two-time winner Greg LeMond in the record book. LeMond won the title in 1983 and 1989, and he was the runner-up in 1982 in 1985.
Those are the only five road race medals earned by Team USA riders in 92 years of competition at the UCI Road World Championships. The event was held for the first time in 1927, and Belgium tops the all-time medal table with 53 (27 gold, 14 silver, 12 bronze).
In 2026, Simmons will captain a talented and accomplished group of American riders that includes Matteo Jorgenson, Brandon McNulty, Neilson Powless, Sean Quinn, Artem Shmidt, Kevin Vermaerke and Larry Warbasse.
But Who Is Quinn Simmons?
We already know that 25-year-old Simmons is known around the cycling world as Captain America, but how did he get that nickname?
Simmons’ breakthrough in road racing came in 2018 when he won the junior men’s road race at the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships, a feat he repeated in the professional/elite category in 2023, 2025 and 2026.
Each victory earned him the opportunity to wear the iconic stars and stripes national champion jersey in future races across the globe.
It didn’t take long for Simmons to emerge on the global scene, too, which came in 2019 when he won the junior men’s road race title at the UCI Road World Championships.
He was the third American in history to accomplish the feat after Greg LeMond (1979) and Jeff Evanshine (1991), and no American has won since.
Quinn Simmons Can Do It All On A Bike
Though he won’t be racing in the men’s time trial at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, Simmons also is an accomplished time-trialist.
His decorated junior career included a junior time trial win at the 2019 Pro Road National Championships.
But wait, there’s more.
Prior to focusing entirely on road racing, the Durango, Colorado, native excelled on a mountain bike, too. He picked up a pair of cross-country national championship in 2017 and 2018.
Quinn Simmons Before The Bike
Captain Quinn is a multi-dimensional athlete, and his first international podium appearance wasn’t because of his prowess on the pedals.
Having grown up in the winter wonderland that is Colorado, Simmons also competed in ski mountaineering and took home a bronze medal in the cadet men’s sprint race at the 2017 ISMF Ski Mountaineering World Championships.
Ski mountaineering, also known as skimo, is part skiing and part mountain climbing. It requires a variety of equipment, from skis to special boots to ice picks to ropes, with the terrain dictating what will be used, while carrying the rest.
Quinn Simmons The Professional Cyclist
Quick success catapulted Simmons to the top of the sport – so quickly, in fact, that he skipped the U23 ranks entirely and turned pro in 2020 at age 18, not long after his junior world title.
He has been a member of Team Lidl-Trek for his entire professional career and has become a fan-favorite due to his aggressive racing style and unique appearance that includes his trademark long red hair and distinctive facial hair, most often worn in a handlebar shape.
On the bike, he’s exciting and entertaining, and he has been known to employ the same strategy behind the microphone, too.
Simmons’ first professional win came at the five-stage Tour de Wallonie in Belgium in 2021. He won Stage 3 and surged to the top of the General Classification and Youth Classification.
He has since won stages at the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional (2023), Volta a Catalunya (2025), Tour de Suisse (2025) and Tour Auvergne – Rhone Alpes (2026) and won the Mountains Classification at the Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour de Suisse (2022).
So far in 2026, Simmons successfully defended his road race title at the 2026 Pro Road National Championships in June, where he finished just ahead of Vermaerke and Warbasse, picked up a stage win at the 2026 Tour Auvergne Rhone Alpes (Stage 4) and finished second in a stage at the 2026 Tour de France (Stage 4).
Quinn Simmons At The Grand Tours
In his Grand Tour debut, the Vuelta a España 2021, Simmons completed all 21 stages and had a best finish of third on Stage 19.
However, many might consider the Tour de France 2025 as his most memorable Grand Tour appearance.
On the course, the highlight of his race was a second-place finish to Ireland’s Ben Healy on the 201.5-kilometer Stage 6 trek from Bayeux to Vire Normandie.
Simmons went on to finish 10th in the Points Classification and 14th in the Youth Classification, but while the winners were preparing to hoist trophies and celebrate the conclusion of the 21-stage race with Paris’ iconic Champs-Élysées as the backdrop, Simmons dropped to one knee.
He stepped off his bike, found his girlfriend Sydney Berry and proposed to her, right there in the Ville d’Amour – or City of Love – with fans and fellow riders there to share the moment.
Spoiler: she said yes.

At the most recent Tour de France, as mentioned above, Simmons finished second to Lidl-Trek teammate Mads Pedersen in Stage 4 and finished the race sixth in the Youth Classification.

About The UCI Road World Championships
The UCI Road World Championships boasts more than a century of history and tradition, though it took a gradual evolution to become the spectacle it is today.
The amateur-only debut of the event came in 1921, followed by the inclusion of professional in 1927. The addition of a women’s category came in 1958, and youth categories were added to the menu in 1975.
The weeklong UCI Road World Championships also now includes a team time trial mixed relay (2019) and a U23 women’s title (2022), which was earned in a standalone women’s event for the first time in 2025.
In 2026, the schedule includes 13 separate events over the eight days of competition.
The winners are considered the world champions and get to wear the rainbow jersey during all competitions of the same discipline during the following season.

One top contender, also the two-time reigning champion and easily the early favorite in the road race, won’t be there. That’s Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogačar, who crashed out of the recent Vuelta a España and chose to end his season prematurely to focus on his recovery.
The five-time Tour de France winner, including 2024, 2025 and 2026, wrecked during Stage 8 of the 21-stage Vuelta, which was held Aug. 22 through Sept. 13. He was leading the race by nearly four minutes, but he left in an ambulance with a fractured collarbone that ultimately required season-ending surgery.

Quinn Simmons Back In Stars And Stripes Jersey For Third Time
For the second consecutive year, and third time overall, Quinn Simmons rode to glory at the USA Cycling Professional Road National Championships.
This time, he broke free with just under 20 miles remaining in the race, and he comfortably crossed the line more than two minutes ahead of Kevin Vermaerke and Larry Warbasse.
Simmons’ first victory at the event came in 2023.
