Mathieu van der Poel And Wout van Aert, The Golden Age of Cycling's Greatest Rivalry

Jan 29, 2021

Mathieu Van Der Poel and Wout Van Aert have been racing cyclocross against each other for nearly a decade. In that time, they have grown into two of the most versatile and dominant figures in the sport of cycling.

They have each won three elite cyclocross world championships, national road titles and a monument. Van Aert has won stages in the Tour de France while Van der Poel is targeting an Olympic gold medal in the Tokyo mountain bike race.

All the while, the two racers have tracked one another, pushing the themselves and each other to new heights in an attempt to be the best.

The rivalry will surely go down as one of the greatest in cycling, if not the sporting world at large, but are we currently witnessing the best of it?
