The Vuelta a España begins Aug. 22, giving Canadian Tour fans another three-week Grand Tour — and another chance to watch Pogačar chase history.
What Is The Vuelta A España?
The Vuelta is the third and final men's Grand Tour of the cycling season, following the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.
For Tour fans, much of the format will be familiar: three weeks of racing, mountain stages, time trials, sprint opportunities and an overall battle for the general classification.
But the Vuelta has its own identity.
Instead of the Tour's yellow jersey, the Vuelta leader wears red. And while the Tour is synonymous with July and France, the Vuelta brings Grand Tour racing into late summer, with Spain at the center of the event.
The 2026 edition features 21 stages and 3,275 kilometers of racing.
The Mountains Aren't Going Anywhere
Tour fans who come for the climbs should feel right at home.
The 2026 Vuelta includes six mountain stages, four medium-mountain stages, four hilly stages and two individual time trials.
It starts with a 9.4-kilometer individual time trial in Monaco, passes through France and Andorra and ultimately heads into Spain before finishing in Granada.
Tadej Pogačar Still Has Something To Win
The biggest bridge between the Tour and Vuelta in 2026 is Pogačar himself.
Pogačar enters Spain after winning his fifth Tour de France, but he has never won the Vuelta.
His only previous appearance came in 2019, when he made his Grand Tour debut. If Pogačar wins this year, he'll become the ninth rider in cycling history to win the Giro, Tour and Vuelta.
Meanwhile, four-time winner Primož Roglič can become the first cyclist to win five Vueltas.
There's A Canadian Connection, Too
Canadian fans also have Hugo Houle to follow.
The Quebec rider and 2022 Tour stage winner is on the current start list with Alpecin-Premier Tech. Houle also has been selected to represent Canada at the UCI Road World Championships in Montréal.
And the timing couldn't be better.
The Vuelta ends Sept. 13. The World Championships begin in Montréal just seven days later and continue through Sept. 27.
How To Watch The Vuelta In Canada
Canadian viewers can watch the 2026 Vuelta live and on demand on FloBikes and the FloSports app. Replays and highlights also are available, making the early European start times easier to manage.
So if the Tour left you wanting more, don't wait until next July.
The red jersey is already waiting.
Why 2026 Is Finally Tadej Pogacar’s Vuelta a España Year
Tadej Pogačar is returning to the Vuelta a España for the first time since 2019, when he won three stages and finished third overall as a 20-year-old.
Now, he comes back as the biggest rider in the sport.
We break down why 2026 is finally the right year for Pogačar’s Vuelta return. If he wins, he completes the set of all three Grand Tours.
