Vuelta a España 2026 To Start In Monaco And Finish In Granada
The 2026 Vuelta a España will start in Monaco and finish in Granada, featuring a brutal mountain-heavy route with over 58,000 meters of climbing.

The 2026 Vuelta a España will start with a time trial in Monaco and finish in Granada after organizers unveiled what they say will be one of the most difficult routes in the race’s history.
Four medium-mountain stages and six mountain stages have been scheduled, with a total elevation gain of 58,156 meters, significantly more than either the Tour de France or the Giro d’Italia.
The second stage will also start from Monaco before heading into France and Andorra, and then into Spain.

Javier Guillén Promises One Of The Toughest Vueltas Ever
“This will be one of the most demanding editions in history,” said race director Javier Guillén, who is hoping the route will attract a strong field.
Tadej Pogacar has not competed in the Vuelta since finishing third on his debut in 2019, but organizers remain confident he will return.
“We are hoping for him. But we know he will come someday because it is the only Grand Tour he has not won,” Guillén said.
Queen Stage, Limited Sprint Chances And Protest Concerns
The Queen Stage is scheduled for the penultimate day, featuring a grueling finish to the summit of the Collado del Aguacil after an 8.3-kilometer climb.
There will be few opportunities for sprinters, although time trial specialists will be able to target both the opening stage and stage 18 to Jerez de la Frontera.
Last year’s Vuelta, won by two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard, was heavily affected by pro-Palestinian protests, with several stages shortened.
“Circumstances from last year and this year for 2026 are totally different, so we are not expecting anything in that regard,” Guillén said.
The Israel-Premier Tech team will race under the name NSN Cycling in 2026 following a takeover involving former Barcelona and Spain football star Andres Iniesta.
