Tour de France 2026 Stage 15 Preview: GC Battle Coming2:18

If there were any questions about the stranglehold Tadej Pogačar has on the Tour de France 2026, he offered another clear reminder Saturday when he rode free from the lead pack to claim Stage 14 for his fourth win at the 2026 event.

He now has 25 victories overall since debuting at the Tour de France in 2020, and he'll lead the field back into the mountains Sunday with a four-and-a-half-minute lead over rival Jonas Vingegaard in the General Classification.

Pogačar attacked with just over 7 kilometers left in Stage 14, making light work of the challenging Col du Haag climb that concluded the 155.3-kilometer ride from Mulhouse to Le Markstein Fellering.

He finished the stage 38 seconds ahead of his teammate Isaac del Toro, who was joined at the finish line by French sensation Paul Seixas.

With the victory, Pogačar was able to extend his lead in the GC by 44 seconds. Heading into another mountain battle in Stage 15, is his advantage already too great for Vingegaard to overcome? We are in prime Pogačar territory, after all.

Remco Evenepoel is third, more than five minutes behind the yellow jersey, and followed by Seixas (5:19) and Juan Ayuso (5:22).

For viewers in Canada, FloBikes coverage of Stage 15 will begin at 7 a.m. Eastern and is expected to conclude around 12:25 p.m. EDT.

Here’s what to know about Stage 15  of the Tour de France 2026, a mountainous 183.9 kilometer ride from Champagnole to the Plateau de Solaison:

Stage 15: Tour de France 2026

Stage 15 of the Tour de France 2026 brings another day of climbing, except this stage is longer and features more total altitude gain than the challenging Stage 14 a day earlier.

At 183.9 kilometers, this is the fifth-longest stage of the year, but likely just a warm-up for three consecutive days of mountains stages as the race winds down in Week 3.

This one comes with a bit of a reward, however, as it is followed by a rest day and a 26.1-kilometer time trial in Stage 16.

This Stage 15 journey from Champagnole to the Plateau de Solaison should not be underestimated and could make or break the event for some GC contenders.

It features four categorized climbs, with the second being a Category 1 challenge to Le Salève via the Col de la Croisette, which features 4.6 kilometers of ascent at an average of 11.2%.

That's not the toughest test of the day, however, as the stage will end with an exhausting final showdown - a hors catégorie climb to the Plateau de Solaison on a narrow road. It'll last 11.3 kilometers at an average of 9.1% and would be an unforgettable win for any rider. It also could create some decisive separation in the GC standings.

For those who don't know, an HC climb is the toughest there is in cycling, and it's so hard it's beyond categorization. This marks the steepest average climb of any summit finish at the TDF 2026.

Despite more than a century of history for the Tour de France, the Plateau de Solaison has never hosted a summit finish for the famed race. Therefore, no one can plan a strategy based on experience or notes from their team archives.

Who Won Stage 15 Of The Tour de France In 2025?

Stage 15 of the Tour de France 2025 was hot and hilly, with Tim Wellens, a teammate of four-time TDF champion Tadej Pogačar, winning the stage with a 45-kilometer solo ride to the finish.

Wellens was part of an early breakaway that got some insurance space when a mass fall caused some havoc early in the day.

The large group then became just five, before Wellens made a run for it. The win marked the fifth of the TDF 2025 for UAE Team Emirates - XRG, with Pogačar being responsible for the first four.

Having previously won stages on the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España, the triumph completed the set of stage wins for Wellens on each of the three Grand Tours.

Following Stage 15, and heading into the second rest day, Pogačar was 4 minutes, 13 seconds ahead of rival Jonas Vingegaard,

Who Won The Tour de France In 2025?

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar added to his growing legacy by winning the Tour de France in 2025.

It was his second consecutive victory at the event, and fourth overall (2020, 2021), making him the sixth rider in history to win four times.

Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain all have won five times, while Chris Froome joins Pogačar with four.

On his way to securing the yellow jersey in 2025, Pogačar was the pre-race favorite.

His title defense featured four stage wins (4, 7, 12, 13), and he finished more than four minutes ahead of runner-up Jonas Vingegaard. Florian Lipowitz was third, 11 minutes behind Pogačar, who also won the King of the Mountains jersey.

Pogačar owns five Grand Tour victories overall, including the Giro d’Italia in 2024, which was part of a historic Giro-TDF double, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since 1998.

In 2026, Vingegaard, a two-time Tour de France winner, will be looking to match the effort after claiming the GC title at the Giro d’Italia in May and becoming the eighth rider to win all three Grand Tours at least one time.

Merckx has the most GC wins in Grand Tours with 11, followed by Hinault, who has 10.

Pogačar has maintained his elite form in 2026 and started the year with four wins in his first five events. He then added four stages wins on the way to the GC crown at the five-stage Tour de Romandie.

In this start-line interview package, we hear from Pogacar ahead of the Le Markstein stage, where he has a chance to put more pressure on his Tour de France rivals.

We also hear from Derek Gee, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel before a tough day in the mountains that could reshape the GC fight once again.
