Expectations heading into Stage 10 of the Giro d’Italia 2026 were that the day had come for pre-Giro favorite Jonas Vingegaard to make his way into the pink leader's jersey for the first time and inch closer to winning the race in his debut.
However, while his 13th-place finish in the 42-kilometer time trial helped him cut significantly in his deficit to Afonso Eulálio, Vingegaard remains 27 seconds off the lead. Eulálio claimed the top spot after Stage 5 and will wear the pink jersey again in Stage 11 on Wednesday.

Italian star Filippo Ganna won the individual time trial Tuesday, finishing nearly two minutes ahead of Thymen Arensman, with Rémi Cavagna another five seconds back.
Eulálio entered Stage 10 ahead of Vingegaard by two minutes and 24 seconds. He powered through the final kilometers to finish 41st overall and maintain his slim lead over the two-time Tour de France champion. Arensman is third in the General Classification, almost two minutes behind Eulálio.
After the shorter day for the only time trial of this year's Giro, the riders will be tested over the next three stages with distances of 195, 175 and 189 kilometers.
Stage 11 will be the longest of the three, and while it's another stage that starts out relatively flat, the second half of the day will be pretty bumpy. The total climbing for the day will be 2,850 meters. The overall assessment? Very demanding.

The first 75-80 kilometers of Stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia 2026 are relatively flat, but the second half of the 195 kilometers will feature a handful of challenging climbs, including three categorized, for a total altitude gain of 2,850 meters.
This route includes some smaller roads and tricky spots, and it's considered hilly.
The climbs to note are Passo del Termine (Category 3 at 115km), Colle di Guaitarola (Category 2 at 135km) and Colla dei Scioli (Category 3 at 167km). The day's Red Bull KOM climb comes near the end at 182.4 kilometers in.
The final few kilometers of Stage 11 are more downhill than up, though the terrain still will be challenging. The final kilometer is straight and flat, and the road widens.
Though the finish is flatter, the expectation is that Stage 11 could be won from a breakaway.
For the tourists in the bunch, Porcari originally had an agricultural foundation, but industry now rules the area. It has become a European hub for tissue paper and cardboard, which has helped the area develop economically.
The end of the day will come in Chiavari, another town that overlooks the vast waters around Italy. This time, it's the Ligurian sea. The history of the town itself spans the centuries, from the Medieval era to commercial, governmental and tourism roles, all of which are reflected in the architecture.

Who Won The Giro d’Italia In 2025?
At 32 years old, Great Britain’s Simon Yates made history at the Giro d’Italia, not because of his age, but because he won the race without winning any of the 21 stages. It was the first time that happened since Alberto Contador did so a decade earlier.
It was the second Grand Tour victory for Yates, who won the Vuelta a España in 2018, and it will be his last, as he announced his retirement seven months after winning the Giro.
Yates didn’t secure the coveted pink jersey until Stage 20, when he shot past Richard Carapaz and longtime leader Isaac Del Toro on the Colle delle Finistre climb, one of the most anticipated challenges on the cycling calendar. The same climb broke Yates in his attempt to win the Giro in 2018.
Del Toro, who had ridden in pink for 11 days, might have fallen short in his GC bid, but he became the first athlete from North America to win the Best Young Rider title.
Heading into Stage 20, Del Toro was 43 seconds ahead of Carapaz and 1 minute, 21 seconds in front of Yates. By the end of the day, Yates was nearly four minutes clear of Del Toro, with Carapaz another minute back.
In 2024, Tadej Pogacar won the Giro d’Italia in 2024 as part of a memorable season that saw him become the first rider since 1998 to win the Giro and the Tour de France in the same season.
He then added a win at the 2024 World Championships in Switzerland to became the first cyclist since 1987 to win the Giro, TDF and a world championship in the same season.
