Giro d'Italia 2025 Stage 15 Preview

Stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia 2025 wasn't supposed to be as challenging and chaotic as it ended up being thanks to slick conditions and a peloton pileup late in the race.

The slowdown benefitted Kasper Asgreen, however, as he split from a three-rider breakaway in the final kilometers to win the 195-kilometer stage by 16 seconds. The final portion of Stage 14 dipped in and out of Slovenia.

With many riders banged up and just trying to make it to their upcoming rest day, Stage 15 on Sunday may push them to the limits. It's a 219-kilometer journey from Fiume Veneto to Asiago that includes 3,900 meters of elevation gain but will take them into Monday's rest day.

Behind Asgreen in the Stage 14 standings were Kaden Groves, Olav Kooij, Orluis Aular and Stefano Oldani.

The drama also benefitted overall leader Isaac del Toro, who now leads by 1 minute, 20 seconds over Simon Yates, who jumped into second place.

Juan Ayuso is third (1 minutes, 26 seconds) and followed by Richard Carapaz (2 minutes, 7 seconds) and Primoz Roglic (2 minutes, 23 seconds).

Stage 15: Giro d’Italia 2025

Stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia 2025 is the third stage of the race to be given four stars of difficulty (out of five) by the event organizers, and it's the second-longest stage of the year - a 219-kilometer journey from Fiume Veneto to Asiago.

That said, it's just a warm-up for what's to come, as three of the final six stages were 5/5 stars.

Classified as a "mountain" stage, Stage 15 does have a flat start, but that's followed by two long climbs, including a 25-kilometer ascent of Monte Grappa, which is a Category 1 climb, the second-toughest of the five categories. It adds up to about 4,000 meters of climbing and a gradient that reaches 11%.

This climb could break some of the riders and/or give the event's top climbers their chance to break free.

There are three categorized climbs in all, with the Monte Grappa coming between a Category 4 and a Category 2.

Those who make it to the end of the stage also must endure a hilly final 20 kilometers that ends in Asiago, which hosted a dramatic stage finish in 2017.

There definitely will be some tired legs after Stage 15, but there's good news - it's followed by the second rest day of the Giro 2025. The bad news? Stage 16 is supposed to be even tougher!
