Giro d'Italia 2025 Stage 8 Preview: Is A Breakaway Win A Possibility?
Pre-race favorite Primoz Roglic is back in the pink leader's jersey heading into Stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia, which will see more climbing across 197km.

The riders at the Giro d'Italia 2025 got their first real taste of climbing Friday in Stage 7, and there will be much more of it in the coming stages, including 3,800 meters of elevation gain and gradients close to 13% in Stage 8 on Saturday.
In Stage 7, the final kilometers featured a challenging climb that reached about 10%, before the first summit finish of the year flattened out just before the finish line.
Juan Ayuso of UAE Team Emirates attacked in the final meters and opened a four-second gap as he cruised to the stage win, the first Grand Tour victory of his career. UAE Team Emirates got the Giro title in 2024 via Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogacar.

Isaac Del Toro of UAE was second behind Ayuso in Stage 7, and past champion Egan Bernal finished third.
Though pre-race favorite Primoz Roglic again was denied his first stage win of the 2025 Giro, his fourth-place finish Friday was enough to regain the pink jersey from overnight leader Mads Pedersen.
Roglic, the 2023 Giro d'Italia champion, took the pink jersey for a day this year after the individual time trial in Stage 2.
He now is four seconds ahead of Ayuso in the General Classification standings, with Del Toro in third place (nine seconds back), Antonio Tiberi fourth (27 seconds) and Max Poole in fifth place (30 seconds).
