Over 21 stages at the Giro d'Italia 2025, the riders will have their versatility tested across all kinds of terrain, while weather always can be a factor, too, just as it was Thursday in a wet-and-slippery Stage 6.

In Stage 7, a 168-kilometer journey from Castel di Sangro to Tagliacozzo, the competitors will face a series of climbs and the first uphill finish of the year.

Though Denmark's Mads Pedersen is the overall leader through six stages by 17 seconds, he is expected to relinquish the pink leader's jersey Friday, likely for good, as he a sprint specialist, not a climber.

Pedersen won three of the first six stages and was a favorite to win Stage 6, but injuries he sustained as one of the day's crash casualties left him out of the sprint finish won by Australian Kaden Groves

The day was wet and chaotic, and a massive mid-stage crash left many riders bruised and battered, while others were forced to abandon the race, including 2022 champion Jai Hindley

Belgium's Milan Fretin and Frenchman Paul Magnier finished second and third, respectively on Wednesday's 227-kilometer trek.

In the General Classification standings, 2023 Giro champion Primoz Roglic is the first rider behind Pedersen. He is followed by Mathias Vacek (24 seconds behind Pedersen), Brandon McNulty (31 seconds) and Isaac Del Toro (32 seconds).

For viewers in Canada, FloBikes coverage of Stage 7 will begin at 6:40 a.m. Eastern and is expected to conclude around 11:35 a.m. EDT.

Stage 7: Giro d’Italia 2025

Climbers, get ready! Stage 7 of the Giro d'Italia 2025 will feature the first uphill finish of the year, as the race returns to Castel di Sangro, which last hosted a stage of the Giro in 2021.

But before the winner can cross the finish line after the 168-kilometer ride, there will be plenty other climbs and time spent at higher altitudes. Riders will be tested by gradients of 9-11%

When it finally is time to hit the homestretch, a ride from Tagliacozzo to the village of Marsia, competitors will encounter a 12.6-kilometer ascent with an average gradient of 5.4%. This climb is being featured in the Giro for the first time.

And, as if the first 165 kilometers weren't going to be hard enough, the last 3 kilometers offer more gradients in the double digits.
