Giro d'Italia 2025 Stage 4 Preview

After a travel/rest day Monday, Stage 4 of the Giro d'Italia 2025 will see the storied race head back to its formal home in Italy after a historic three-stage debut in Albania.

The return to action Tuesday will be the longest ride of the year so far, a 189-kilometer journey from Alberobello to Lecce in the heel of the famous "boot" of Italy.

Denmark's Mads Pedersen will wear the pink jersey - the coveted Maglia Rosa - into the next phase of the 21-stage race.

Pedersen won two of the first three stages of the Giro d'Italia 2025, outsprinting the competition in Stage 1 and Stage 3.

The Stage 2 individual time trial was won by 21-year-old Joshua Tarling of Great Britain, who became the youngest rider in the race's 108-year history to win a time trial.

Pedersen's success earned him the first pink jersey of his career, which he reclaimed Sunday from 2023 Giro champion Primoz Roglic. Heading into the rest day, Pedersen leads the General Classification battle by nine seconds over Roglic.

Mathias Vacek is third (14 seconds), Brandon McNulty is fourth (21 seconds) and Juan Ayuso is fifth (25 seconds).

For viewers in Canada, FloBikes coverage of Stage 4 will begin Tuesday at 6:50 a.m. Eastern and is expected to conclude around 11:35 a.m. EDT.

Stage 4: Giro d’Italia 2025

The riders at the Giro d'Italia 2025 are coming off their first rest day, which followed a historic three stages in Albania, a first-time host for the Giro.

Stage 4 should be another opportunity for the sprinters. The 189-kilometer route from Alberobello to Lecce should be on the quicker side, as there is minimal climbing. Just a lot of open road and quaint towns along the way.

For those not familiar with Italy's geography, this stage takes place in the heel of the "boot."

Alberobello was a first-time Giro host in 2021 (a finish won by Caleb Ewan), while Lecce is a familiar name on the Giro map.
