That again will be the case this year, but even after 107 editions, the race is find new host cities and new terrain to challenge the competitors.
The Giro d'Italia 2025 will run from May 9 through June 1 and take the riders on a journey of more than 3,400 kilometers over 21 stages.
Among the noteworthy firsts this year will be the race's debut in Albania. It will be the first time the Giro has crossed into Albania and will mark the country's first professional cycling race of Category 1 or higher.

The first three stages of the 2025 race will take place in Albania, before the excitement shifts to southern Italy for an early rest day and the continuation of the trek. As has been a tradition, the race once again will end in Rome.

Stage 1: Giro d’Italia 2025
Stage 1 of the Giro d'Italia 2025 sees the race visit Albania for the first time. The first three stages of the race will happen in the new host country, before things shift back to Italy.
This year's race will get underway in historic Durres (or Durazzo), a seaside location with narrow alleys and stone houses founded in the seventh century BC. Cyclists and fans will get their first taste of the areas Mediterranean cuisine and first look at the Albanian terrain.
The opening stage is considered to be hilly, a consistency across most of the first 10 stages, a span that also includes two individual time trials.
The journey from Durres to Tirana is flat to start, for about 70 kilometers, actually, before the first climb of the year takes them more than 13 kilometers and as steep as 5.2%.
There are three climbs overall, including the famous Surrel, a 4.9-kilometer hill that starts with a gradient of 8.1%.
The stage actually includes two identical laps, and the 11.3-kilometer homestretch after the second time over Surrel is all downhill.

Who Won Stage 1 Of The Giro d’Italia In 2024?
The opening stage in 2024 was a 140-kilometer trip from Venaria Reale to Torino.
It was the biggest win of Narvaez's career but only temporarily slowed Pogacar's momentum. Pogacar went on to win six stages and the general classification, all part of a historic season for the young Slovenian.
While there will be opportunities for sprint finishes in 2025, it is important to note that the 2025 course is heavier on the climbs than any race since 2020.
