In the team time trial, Bauke Mollema suffered a mechanical, taking him out of the race early into the Dutch men's effort. As their women's team began their effort, Annemiek van Vleuten took a horrible crash. 

Van Vleuten's crash overshadowed a triumphant day for the Swiss team, who took the rainbow jerseys after narrow defeats in their individual efforts.
