At 25 years old, Mathieu van der Poel has racked up quite a results sheet in a short amount of time. What we love about van der Poel however is the way in which he wins races. When he goes, it is as if there is nobody who can stand in his way.

The way van der Poel dispenses of veteran riders with apparent ease inspired this video series.

This week FloBikes will be highlighting some of van der Poel's top victims.

Matteo Trentin

Matteo Trentin seems destined to battle with MVDP for many years to come. In just two short years of van der Poel's abridged road racing seasons, the duo have gone back and forth on many occasions.

Trentin got the better of van der Poel in the cold and rainy 2018 European Championships Road Race.

In stage 7 of the 2019 Tour of Britain, van der Poel blasted to victory on the uphill finish. Trentin was the only rider able to follow van der Poel, but crossed the line behind the Dutchman with a shrug as if to say "what can you do about this guy?"

Trentin did exact a bit of revenge two months later in Yorkshire when van der Poel got dropped from the winning break at the World Championships after going pull for pull with Trentin in the closing circuits.

Trentin and van der Poel have similar strengths, which allow them to feature in the finales of some of the most epic races. We have not seen the last of this rivalry.
