In this interview from the 2013 Cyclocross National Championships, Kevin McRee talks to junior women's 17-18 winner Ellen Noble. In May of that year, Noble's father Tom had contracted colon cancer, and passed away at 46 years old.

Noble didn't know if she would continue competing that year, but ultimately decided to race in memory of her father. Her dad designed and built skate parks for a living, and her parents owned a bike shop in Kennebunkport, Maine. Noble started racing on mountain bikes at age 7.

During the 2013 National Championships, she raced with a small locket around her neck, a gift from her grandmother. After she crossed the line, she opened it up and looked inside. There, she'd placed two small photos of her father.
