Everything You Need To Know About The 2022 Tour De La Provence

The 2022 Tour de La Provence, an early-season stage race in southern France, will run from February 10 - 13th 2022. The Tour de La Provence is part of a series of races which also includes Etoile de Bessèges - Tour du Gard and Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var. All three races serve as early-season preparations for Paris-Nice, the first European WorldTour event.

It All Comes Down To The Final Stage

Tour de la Provence opens with a rolling, fast 7.1km prologue route along the idyllic Étang de Berre.

Stage one from Istres to Les-Saintes-Maries-de-La-Mera is a 160km dash with only 400 meters of elevation gain. This should be a day for the sprinters, but weather will be a factor in the stage outcome as the course is exposed to wind throughout the stage.

The 183-kilometer second stage packs in 2100-meters of elevation gain from Arles to Manosque." Three climbs will be featured, including the Côte de Lauris, the Col de la Mort d'Imbert and then the Col de l'Air Dei Masco. The stage will finish with a circuit 75km from the finish.

The queen stage, which will traverse from Manosque to a summit finish on Montagne de Lure, arrives on the final day of racing. This is the first time the Tour de la Provence will feature the Montagne de Lure, a 17km climb with an average gradient of 6%. This 169km stage will be the most challenging stage of the entire Tour de La Provence, with 3251m of elevation gain. The peloton will climb the Col de Buire twice, a 6km climb of 3.7% gradient before the final climb and summit finish, The Montagne de Lure.

Egan Bernal To Defend Ineos’ Title

In 2021, Columbian Iván Sosa won the overall classification, but is not expected to return in 2022. Previous winners include Thomas Voeckler in 2016, Rohan Dennis in 2017, Alexandre Geniez in 2018, Gorka Izagirre in 2019 and Nairo Quintana in 2020. Quintana will be back for the 2022 edition and will find competition from INEOS’ Egan Bernal and Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s Julian Alaphillipe.

The Tour de la Provence will be streamed live and on-demand on Flobikes in Canada.
