What You Need To Know About USA Cycling's 2021 Mountain Bike Nationals

The top mountain bikers in the country are descending upon Winter Park, Colorado, for USA Cycling's Mountain Bike National Championships. FloBikes will provide live coverage of the youth and elite competitions from Friday, July 9 to Sunday, July 11.

The event will draw top professionals, amateurs, juniors and riders from the nation-wide high school league, competing in Cross Country (XC), Short-Track Cross Country (STXC), Downhill (DH), Dual Slalom (DS) and Enduro (EN) events.

High Altitude Rocky Mountain Racing

As part of Winter Park Ski Resort, Trestle Bike Park will host a variety of technical courses over the course of the weekend. At a base altitude of 9000 feet, racers can expect daytime temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s and potential afternoon rain showers over the weekend. 

Courses include a 2.1 mile amateur DH course and 1.4 mile pro DH course; a 0.5 mile STXC course; three stages of enduro courses ranging in distance from 1.3 to 2.4 miles in length with a separate fourth stage for both amateurs and pros; and four stages of XC courses available to both amateur and pro racers. 

Riders to Watch - Pro Men

Dual Slalom contenders include 2019 silver and bronze medalists Kyle Strait and Tony Zula in the pro men’s field. Neko Mulally and Dakotah North will be returning to defend their DH gold and bronze medals, and Mitch Ropelato and Cody Kelley are heavy favorites for the Enduro.

In STXC, the men’s field will see a return of 2019’s silver and bronze medalists Cypress Gorry and Stephan Davoust. 

Keegan Swenson has returned stateside to defend his XC national title following a busy season of European World Cup events. Swenson will face steep competition from Howard Grotts and Russell Finsterwald in an exciting XC showdown for the stars and stripes. 

Riders to Watch - Pro Women

Kilani Hines, 2019 silver medalist in both the DS and DH headlines this year’s pro women’s gravity events. 

Silver XC medalist Evelyn Dong will be returning as well as STXC women’s pro silver and bronze medalists Alexis Skarda and Rose Grant. 

Enduro athlete and bronze medalist Lia Westermann will also be looking for gold at the 2021 Mountain Bike National Championships.
