Format

The Challenge of Stars will be competed on the virtual BKOOL platform, which hosted the Tour of Flanders Lockdown Edition last month.

16 star riders including Chris Froome, Caleb Ewan and Mads Pedersen will compete across two days of virtual racing.

Saturday will feature the sprinter's competition in which two sprinters will face off against each other on a 1.2 kilometer long course. The winning rider will advance to the next round. The third round of the elimination tournament will decide the overall champion.

On Sunday, the climbers will face off against each other. The tournament format will be the same, but the climbers will compete on a 2.9 kilometer long ascent averaging 8.69% in gradient.

The event is put on by RCS Sport in partnership with Tissot and Enel. The Italian organizers have created courses to mirror their home country. The sprinters will compete in a virtual rendition of the Tuscan countryside, while the climbers will face off on a stretch of the iconic Stelvio.
