The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been officially rescheduled to run from July 23rd through August 8th 2021, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed.
This is the first time that the Olympics have been rescheduled since World War II. Despite being reschedule for 2021, the Games will still be known as the 2020 Olympics.
The games were meant to be held from July 24th through August 8th this summer. The intended six day turnaround between between the Champs Élysées and the Olympic Road Race, put cyclists hoping to compete in both the 2020 Tour de France and Olympics were put under pressure.
The updated 2021 dates for the Tokyo Olympics, remain nearly identical, so it is likely the Tour de France and its competitors will face a similar scheduling crunch next year.
