Tom Dumoulin of Team Sunweb announced with a video message his participation at the 2019 Giro d'Italia.

Dumoulin created the video message at the team's training camp in Calpe, Spain. 

"After weeks of talking about it, we finally decided the main focus will be the Giro d'Italia in 2019," said Dumoulin.

"The Giro is such a nice course this year. I really love Italy, I love the course, I love the race. 

Dumoulin said he will aim to race the Tour de France for general classification following the Giro d'Italia. But, the Italian grand tour will be his primary focus.

The announcement came in coordination with the Los Angeles premiere of a film shot at the 2015 Giro d'Italia, "Wonderful Losers. A Different World." 

The film is shortlisted for the Academy Awards. The movie has already won various awards in international festivals, including the Best Documentary in this year's Trieste Film Festival. It is among the 2019 Oscar candidates in the Best Foreign Film category, representing Lithuania. 

"Wonderful Losers. A Different World" uncovers the invisible side of Giro d'Italia, one of the harshest and most popular cycling races in the world. Lithuanian director Arūnas Matelis was the first film director in 40 years to be allowed to shoot the race from inside it.
