On Tap: Pais Vasco Stage 3 A Day For The Breakaway

Matthews Attacks At Basque Country

The Stage

A “flat” day at the Tour of the Basque Country kicks off with two consecutive Category 3 climbs, followed by undulating terrain from the Spanish coast in Bermeo 185 kilometers to Valdegovía.

What To Watch For

A fierce fight for the breakaway as stage 3 offers a rare opportunity for non-climbers to nab a Pais Vasco stage win. Team Sunweb will be particularly interested in this stage as one of the few teams without a designated GC man, and sprinter Michael Mathews on fine form.

Ranking The Favorites

  1. Michael Mathews
  2. Michal Kwiatkowski
  3. Rui Costa
  4. Stephen Cummings
  5. Michael Albasini
