Giulio Pellizzari sealed overall victory at the Tour of the Alps on Friday, winning the final stage with a decisive solo attack.

The 22-year-old Italian climber broke clear on the final climb and rode alone to the finish, confirming his first professional stage race victory.

Egan Bernal finished second on the stage and moved into second overall, while Thymen Arensman placed fourth on the day and secured third in the final standings.

Pellizzari ended the race 40 seconds ahead of Bernal, with Arensman a further 10 seconds back.

The Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe rider also claimed two stage wins during the week, underlining his strength in the mountains.

This breakthrough result builds on a strong start to the season, including third place at Tirreno-Adriatico and the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.

Last year, Pellizzari impressed with sixth-place finishes at both the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España.

He is now set to lead his team at the upcoming Giro d’Italia, where he will be among the main challengers to Jonas Vingegaard.
