Isaac Del Toro secured overall victory at Tirreno-Adriatico on Sunday, claiming his second stage-race win of the season as Jonathan Milan powered to victory in the sprint finale.

The UAE Team Emirates rider had effectively sealed the general classification on Saturday after finishing the penultimate stage with a 42-second advantage over Giulio Pellizzari.

Del Toro safely finished with the peloton on the final stage into San Benedetto del Tronto to confirm the overall win despite being briefly caught behind a late crash that involved Milan's sprint rival Jasper Philipsen.

The 22-year-old ended the race 40 seconds ahead of American rider Matteo Jorgenson, while Pellizzari slipped to third place overall after the final stage.

Del Toro also claimed both the points and youth classifications following an impressive week of racing in central Italy that included two demanding mountain stages and difficult wet conditions.

Speaking in the press conference, the winner of Tirreno Adriatico Crédit Agricole Isaac Del Toro said: "I’m super happy to get this victory with the team. I’ve been coming here for the last three years and I’m very proud of the achievements with team. It’s the way I want to race more as a leader. I’ve been in Mathieu van der Poel’s wheel more than often this week, maybe that will help in Milano-Sanremo. I’ll be racing it for Tadej [Pogacar] and not looking for a result for myself. There won’t be Jhonathan Narvaez not Tim Wellens [due to injuries], so I want to do a great job as a team-mate. I enjoy to be this kind of guy who can switch roles and I want to learn as fast as I can. It’s super nice to be the first Mexican winner of Tirreno Adriatico. People back home support me like crazy, they start to understand the sport".

Jonathan Milan Wins San Benedetto Del Tronto Sprint

The final stage was largely controlled by the peloton, although Mathieu van der Poel animated the race by joining a breakaway that forced a high pace during the 142km route.

Norwegian rider Jonas Abrahamsen launched a late attack in the closing laps around San Benedetto del Tronto but was caught with roughly 400 meters remaining.

That set up the expected bunch sprint where Milan surged through the middle to claim victory by the narrowest of margins.

The Italian secured the final stage of his home race for the third consecutive year.

The victory marked Milan's sixth win of the season after earlier successes that included points classification wins at the UAE Tour and the AlUla Tour.
