A kangaroo crashes into the peloton in Tour Down Under 2026 stage 5, taking down race leader Jay Vine, Matthew Brennan wins the sprint 90km later.

A kangaroo became an unlikely central figure at the Tour Down Under on Sunday after darting into the peloton and colliding with overall race leader Jay Vine during the final stage.
The high-speed incident occurred with about 95 kilometers remaining as riders raced through the Adelaide Hills at roughly 50 km/h. Vine struck the animal and was knocked from his bike, briefly threatening his bid for overall victory in the UCI World Tour season opener.

The Australian rider was able to continue after switching bikes and regrouping with teammates. Despite the scare, Vine finished the stage safely and secured his second Tour Down Under title.
