Scottish cyclist Oscar Onley, who finished fourth at the most recent Tour de France with Picnic PostNL, has signed with Ineos Grenadiers starting from the 2026 season, the two teams announced on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old, who has been a professional since 2019, owns two career victories, a stage of the Tour Down Under in 2024 and a stage of the Tour of Switzerland this year, but has primarily built his reputation as a general classification rider.

In addition to his fourth-place finish in Paris this summer, Onley also placed third at the Tour of Switzerland and fourth at the Tour of Britain this season.

Geraint Thomas Praises Oscar Onley’s Maturity And Potential

"Oscar's performance in 2025 has been incredible. I rode my first Tour when I was 21, so to see what he achieved at this year's Tour at just 22 was really impressive," said Geraint Thomas, who was appointed director of racing at Ineos last month.

"The way he rides and understands a race is mature beyond his years. He's a proper racer. I can't wait to work with him. At his age there's still loads of headroom."

Thomas, the 2018 Tour de France winner, said Onley fits perfectly with Ineos Grenadiers’ renewed ambitions.

Ineos Targets GC Depth As It Rebuilds For Future Tours

Once dominant under the Team Sky banner, Ineos has ceded ground in recent seasons to powerhouses built by UAE Team Emirates around Tadej Pogacar and by Visma around Jonas Vingegaard.

"I grew up watching Geraint, Dave Brailsford and the team dominate the sport and put cycling on the map in the UK, so I am really proud to be joining the Grenadiers on a long-term deal," Onley said.

"It will also mean racing for a British team when the Tour de France departs from Scotland in 2027."

Onley’s arrival follows the signing of French rider Kevin Vauquelin, who finished seventh at the most recent Tour de France, and is part of the team’s wider rebuild.

"The strongest teams I ever rode with had multiple talented GC riders, and that's what I feel we have now. Super strong options for any stage of the race," Thomas said. "Oscar complements our roster perfectly."

Derek Gee Linked To Lidl-Trek Amid Contract Dispute With Israel-Premier Tech

Derek Gee is reportedly on the verge of joining Lidl-Trek, though the Canadian’s next move remains complicated by an ongoing contract dispute with Israel-Premier Tech.

Gee, 28, has been one of the standout riders of 2025, finishing fourth at the Giro d’Italia and backing up his ninth-place Tour de France from 2024. But following the Giro, Gee unilaterally terminated his contract, citing a breakdown with team management and concerns tied to the fallout of Israel’s war in Gaza. His current team, now racing as NSN Cycling, insists his deal runs through 2028.

Despite the legal wrangling, interest has remained high. Initially linked to INEOS Grenadiers, Gee is now expected to sign with Lidl-Trek, according to reports.

How he fits into Lidl-Trek’s already deep Grand Tour lineup, featuring Juan Ayuso, Mads Pedersen, and Mattias Skjelmose, remains an open question.
