Tour de France 2025 Stage 17 Preview: A Day For A Sprint, Reprieve For GC
Stage 17 on Wednesday may not be completely flat, but it's a solid opportunity for the sprinters to earn a win in the middle of four mountain stages.

Before Stage 16 of the Tour de France 2025 even started, there was drama, as Week 1 star Mathieu van der Poel was forced to abandon the race after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
On the course, there was a breakaway that almost saw Enric Mas earn his first stage win at the Tour de France, but he was caught in the final kilometers. Instead, it was Valentin Paret-Peintre edging Ben Healy to give France its first victory of this year's race.

A secondary battle continued in the General Classification, where Jonas Vingegaard kept attacking, hoping to close the deficit between him and leader Tadej Pogacar, but the defending champion had an answer every time.
In the final meters, Pogacar pulled away from Vingegaard to add a couple seconds to his lead, and he's now ahead by 4 minutes, 15 seconds.
Pogacar and Vingegaard finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in Stage 16, with Santiago Buitrago and Ilan Van Wilder finishing behind Paret-Peintre and Healy.

Stage 17: Tour de France 2025
Stage 16: mountains. Stage 18: mountains. Stage 19: mountains.
But, wait, what about Stage 17? Good questions.
Stage 17 of the Tour de France 2025 is a flat 160.4-kilometer trek from Bollène to Valence that should give the sprinters another chance to shine as this year's TDF winds down - at least if the wind cooperates as the riders progress, change direction, etc.
This is a stage where the GC leaders will hope for some reprieve, while the sprinters will be focused to making it quickly and safely to the final kilometers, where they'll be able to fight for a win.
As always, 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds will be awarded to the first three finishers.
