Tour de France 2025 Stage 16 Preview: The "Giant of Provence" Awaits
With the rest day behind them, the riders at the Tour de France 2025 will be back in the saddle and back in the mountains for Stage 16 on Tuesday.

Belgian cycling fans had something to cheer about Sunday, as national champion Tim Wellens rode solo for more than 40 kilometers to win Stage 15 of the Tour de France 2025.
With the victory, Wellens joins an exclusive club of riders who have won stages at each of the three Grand Tours - the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España.
The monumental performance from Wellens came on a 169.3-kilometer ride from Muret to Carcassonne, a day after Belgian superstar Remco Evenepoel was forced to abandon the TDF 2025 during Stage 14.
Now, the race heads into the second of its two rest days, before heading back into the mountains for Stage 16 on Tuesday.

With the rest day behind them, the riders at the Tour de France 2025 will be back in the saddle and back in the mountains, this time to tackle a geographical anomaly known simply as the "Giant of Provence."
This giant is a mere nuisance, however, as it's the only real challenge on an otherwise straightforward ride.
In the General Classification, defending champion Tadej Pogacar leads two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard by 4 minutes, 13 seconds, and they're followed by Florian Lipowitz, who is 7 minutes, 53 seconds off the lead and wearing the white jersey as the best young rider.
For viewers in Canada, FloBikes coverage of Stage 16 will begin at 6 a.m. Eastern and is expected to conclude around 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Stage 16: Tour de France 2025
Whether you refer to it as the "Giant of Provence" or "The Beast of Provence," expectations are that the Mont Ventoux has the potential to make or break the Tour de France 2025 for some of the riders.
The 171.5-kilometer route from Montpellier to Mont Ventoux features a flat start and is relatively straight forward, while the final 16 kilometers and summit finish are what will be talked about when recounting the day.
The final climb has a long history in the TDF dating back to the 1950s. Weather will be a factor. Gradients up to 10% will be a factor. Wind will be a factor. Legs will be tested. Attacks will be carried out. Strategy will be important, both for those planning attacks, and those deciding whether or not they have what it takes to follow.
The Giant is legendary. Will one of the modern legends of cycling slay The Beast, or will a new hero emerge in the spotlight?
As always, 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds will be awarded to the first three finishers.
