Tour de France 2025 Stage 13 Preview: Another Time Trial - Short But Tough

Stage 13 of the Tour de France 2025 is anything but a traditional fast-and-flat time trial, and even though it's a short 10.9 kilometers, it'll be tough.

If there were any questions about how Tadej Pogacar was feeling after a solo crash late in Stage 11 of the Tour de France 2025, he answered them definitively in Stage 12.

The defending Tour de France champion rode free with nearly 12 kilometers to go and turned a 29-second deficit into an advantage of more than three and a half minutes.

His dominant performance Thursday included conquering one of the most challenging climbs in cycling, the Hautacam.

Pogacar once again will wear the yellow leader's jersey, and while Stage 13 of the TDF 2025 may be short at 10.9 kilometers - it's the year's second individual time trial - it sure won't be easy, as riders will be tested by gradients reaching 13%.

TT specialist Remco Evenepoel won the first time trial, which came in Stage 5, while Pogacar finished second, 16 seconds back.

Both will be among the favorites again in Stage 13, but much attention now is shifting to the bigger picture and whether Pogacar already has built a lead that will secure his fourth Tour de France title.

After Stage 12, he's 3 minutes, 31 seconds ahead of two-time TDF champion Jonas Vingegaard and 4 minutes, 45 seconds in front of Evenepoel. Florian Lipowitz and Kevin Vauquelin are nearly another minute back.

For viewers in Canada, FloBikes coverage of Stage 13 will begin at 7 a.m. Eastern and is expected to conclude around noon EDT.

Stage 13: Tour de France 2025

Sometimes, it takes a special rider to conquer a time trial at this level, but Stage 13 of the Tour de France 2025 is anything but a traditional fast-and-flat time trial.

This one will see the field ease into the ride before facing 8 kilometers at 7.8% gradient. That's not the worst part, however, as the final kilometer will push them to their limits at a 13% average.

The final climb in Stage 13 won't be a surprise to many of the riders, as they saw the exact same layout during the 2022 edition of the TDF.

That year, rivals Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard battled for the stage win (Stage 17), with Pogacar coming out on top, though Vingegaard went on to win the GC battle.

Will the outcome be the same in 2025?

Who Won Stage 13 Of The Tour de France In 2024?

Three riders won multiple stage of the Tour de France in 2024 - Tadej Pogacar (six), Biniam Girmay (three) and Jasper Philipsen (three).

Philipsen found the winner's circle in Stage 10, Stage 13 and Stage 16.

His win in Stage 13, a 165.3-kilometer rider from Agen to Pau, ended with him edging fellow Belgian Wout van Aert in a dash for the finish line.

Since winning the coveted green sprinter's jersey at the TDF in 2023, Philipsen was considered one of the best - if not THE best - sprinter in the world, and he proved it with his performance at the Tour de France, though Girmay stole the spotlight and the green jersey in 2024.

Stage 13 of last year's race also was noteworthy because one of the favorites, Primoz Roglic, failed to show up at the starting line. After multiple serious falls in previous stages, he was forced to abandon the 2024 race.
