Jay Vine attacked with one kilometer to go and soloed to victory on stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie on Friday, while Alex Baudin retained the overall lead.

The UAE Team Emirates rider timed his move perfectly on the uphill finish of the 183.1km circuit around Cossonay, holding off a charging peloton by two seconds.

Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious) led the bunch in for second, with Vine’s teammate João Gonçalves taking third on the same time.

Remco Evenepoel, still building form in his first stage race since a winter crash, finished seventh on the day. The Olympic champion is now ninth overall, 52 seconds behind Baudin.

Saturday’s penultimate stage finishes at the Thyon 2000 ski resort and features three Category 1 climbs, including a summit finish that will shake up the GC.
