Fan hospitalized after a "freak" crash at the Tour Down Under sprint race. Cyclists hit barricades, causing injuries to a female spectator in Adelaide.

A cycling fan is in the hospital with serious injuries following a "freak, high-speed" crash during the Tour Down Under’s men's classic sprint race on Saturday in Adelaide, Australia. The collision occurred as a group of cyclists hit the barricades on the final corner, sending one rider over the top and into the crowd, with multiple spectators knocked to the ground.
Accident Leaves Spectator Injured
Race organizers confirmed that a female spectator was injured and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. "We are in contact with the spectator’s family and have offered our support," they said in a statement.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas described the incident as an "awful, freak accident." He expressed his sadness, noting that the woman suffered "multiple serious injuries" as a result of the crash.
Rider And Witness Reactions
The crash unfolded on a "super-fast corner," according to Australian race winner Sam Welsford (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe). Italy's Manlio Moro (Movistar) was among the riders involved in the collision. Britain's Matthew Brennan (Team Visma), who witnessed the pile-up, called the scene "chaotic," crediting his team for keeping him safe during the race.
