Jonas Vingegaard has set his sights on a third Tour de France title and will also compete in the Vuelta a España this year, he announced on Tuesday as his Visma team prepared for the new season.

Jonas Vingegaard’s Ambitious 2025 Goals

The Danish star, who won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023, emphasized the significance of the race. “It (Tour de France) is the race that means the most for me. It's the biggest race of the year, and there's something special about the Tour de France,” said Vingegaard. “My biggest goal will, of course, be the Tour de France again, to try to win that for the third time... then later on I will do the Vuelta a España.”

Vingegaard, 28, previously attempted a Tour-Vuelta double in 2023 but finished second in the Spanish race to teammate Sepp Kuss. This year, he will prepare for the Tour by competing in Paris-Nice and the Tour of Catalonia before the race begins in Lille on July 5.

Recovery From A Challenging 2024

Last year, Vingegaard endured a challenging season after a severe crash during the Tour of the Basque Country in April. He revealed the full extent of his injuries: “I had seven broken ribs, a broken sternum, my collar bone was in three or four pieces, I had a broken finger, and both of my lungs were punctured.” The 28-year-old spent eight days in intensive care but managed to recover in time to compete in the Tour de France, finishing second behind Tadej Pogacar.

“That I was able to make it to the Tour de France was a victory in itself and something that I'm really proud of,” he added.

Wout van Aert’s 2025 Focus

Vingegaard’s teammate Wout van Aert, 30, will race both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France but will primarily focus on one-day classics, aiming for victories at the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Van Aert has one career Monument victory, achieved at the 2020 Milan-San Remo, but has finished second or third six times in the major classics since then.

After an injury-hit 2024 campaign that included two heavy crashes, Van Aert expressed optimism about his 2025 season. “The injury is healed, and I can train like I should, so I believe it won't affect me in 2025,” he said.
