Pogacar To Worlds 2023, Likely Evenepoel Duel

Two of the biggest stars – Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel – will face off this Sunday. We already knew Remco Evenepoel was racing the UCI Cycling World Championships, but now the Slovenian star announced he is participating.

After a small rest off the heels of the Tour de France, where he placed second and after winning two stages, Pogacar is back! It's great news for lovers of cycling, the world championships and of course, Pogacar.

The majority of all the UCI races will stream live on FloBikes and the FoSports app.

Tadej Pogacar Sets Strava Record On Col de la Madone

And he's back in full fight. In the last days, he broke the all time record on the famous Col de la Madone above Monaco. He beat Richie Porte's record from 2016. Mike Woods sits third on the Strava leader's board.

Let's not forget, in addition to being a Grand Tour star – winner of the Tour de France twice and runner up the last two editions – Tadej Pogacar is one of the most lethal one-day racers currently on two wheels.

This spring, after winning Paris-Nice, Tadej went on a rampage winning the Tour of Flanders, Flèche Wallonne, and Amstel Gold Race. Only a crash and fractured wrist stopped him from going head-to-head with Remco Evenepoel in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

The Worlds this year in Scotland, from Edinburgh to Glasgow, covers 271.1 kilometers with 3570 climbing meters. With its technical finishing 10 circuits in Glasgow, it's similar to the Amstel Gold Race - where Pogacar rode clear of Ben Healy for the solo win - or Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Remco Evenepoel Number One Favorite For World Championships 2023

Remco Evenepoel instead won Liège-Bastogne-Liège before going to the Giro d'Italia, and was knocked out by Covid. He heads to Glasgow also as the defending 2022 World Champion on the heels of last weekend's win in the Clásica San Sebastián.

BUT there are many factors at play, and also other favorites. And before you ask: No, the Tour de France champion from the last two years Jonas Vingegaard is NOT racing the World Championships. Neither is Giro d'Italia winner Primoz Roglic, who's focusing on his battle with Remco Evenepoel in the upcoming Vuelta a España.

Team Slovenia with Pogacar won't have Roglic and it won't have Matej Mohoric, but it will have a strong team of workhorses around their galaxy's brightest star.

Belgium has Wout van Aert and Jasper Philipsen, two strong and possible winners. They could either work in Evenepoel's favor or as we've seen in national teams in years past, be his downfall.

Given the two's strengths, the course, the weather – bad – we should see a complete knockout grudge fight on the streets of Glasgow where one of the two could come home with the rainbow jersey.
